In a 12 inch skillet, bring wine, sugar, and cinnamon to a boil over moderate heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add the pear halves, partially cover the pan and reduce the heat to low. Cook the pears until they are just barely soft. 10-15 minutes. Cool the pears in the syrup until they are lukewarm. Refrigerate in the syrup until needed.
If you are cooking for children, substitute 3 cups water for the wine.
